There is definitely a good chance that Algeria will host the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), awarded in 2017 to Guinea. It is that the experts of the Confederation of African (Site notre blog d’information) (CAF), who made an inspection visit to Conakry, did not appreciate the degree of progress in the preparations for the organization of this continental event.

It’s been a few years that Algeria has been chasing after hosting an edition of the African Cup of Nations. It would be the second after that of 1990, reported by the Fennecs after their victory in the final against Nigeria (1-0). This dream has become stronger since the coronation of 2019 on Egyptian soil, a coronation which could have allowed Algeria to win its third star.

But now, it is possible that the visit made this week to Algiers by the president of the CAF, Patrice Motsepe, was seized as an opportunity to discuss the possibility for Algeria to host the 35th edition of the CAN in case of Guinea’s withdrawal. Especially since Motsepe discussed with the new president of the FAF, Djahid Zefizef, the idea of ​​opening new relations between the two organisations.

The infrastructures in construction and the success of the JM of Oran

In fact, Patrice Motsepe’s vision of Algeria’s ability to organize competitions seems to have improved. Consider for two reasons: the first is linked to the sports infrastructure under construction, such as the Baraki and Douera stadiums in Algiers, and Tizi-Ouzou[1], but also those who have benefited from the rehabilitation and renovation works; the second reason has to do with the success of the Mediterranean Games organized recently in Oran.

It must be said that this question of the organization of a final phase of the CAN has taken a political turn since the Algerian media were part of the instruction of the Head of State Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the FAF, asking him to Prepare a « solid file » to defend the idea of ​​hosting CAN 2025. Especially since before CAN 2025, Algeria will host CHAN 2022, in January / February 2023, and the U17 CAN in 2023 .

CAN 2027 awarder in Tanzania and Uganda?

At the same time, CAF leaders seem ready to award the organization of this CAN 2025 to Algeria, but above all they want to be sure that the Guineans will be unable to do so at home. The CAF president would even be ready to maintain the Guinean candidacy if the leaders of Conakry agree to co-organize it with a neighboring country. So either Sierra Leone, Liberia or Guinea-Bissau.

If it is possible for Algeria to host CAN 2025, it is plausible to this extent or at the end, and that the President of CAF encourages Tanzania and Uganda to co-organize CAN 2027, at the source of Algeria’s best candidate. To believe that Patrice Motsepe has already decided on the idea of ​​a CAN 2025 in Algeria to yield that of 2027 to the two East African countries mentioned above.
