Bundesliga only once in the top 25
Financially, the Premier League plays in a completely different dimension to other major European (Site notre bureau spécialisé) leagues – it’s no secret, but the differences in numbers are still remarkable. This winter that will become even clearer, especially through the shopping spree of Chelsea FC, who have so far invested 208.5 million euros in seven players and didn’t have enough by Tuesday’s deadline. In total, English Premier League teams paid out €583.06m for 42 players this year as of Monday evening, shortly after 8am. This broke the previous spending record for a league for a transfer window.

Unsurprisingly, the rankings so far top the English upper house: in 2017/18, €561.4m was spent on newcomers in January. At that time, for example, Chelsea brought in Olivier Giroud, Manchester City snapped up Aymeric Laporte and Liverpool FC made Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in (Site notre bureau spécialisé) history at the time.
The Premier League has found itself among the ten January transfer windows with the highest investment volume in a league seven times, and in 2021/22, 2019/20, 2016/17, 2015/16 and 2011/12 , more than 250 million euros have been invested. by English clubs issued. The Chinese Super League has also made the top five twice, with clubs spending €347.9m and €403.5m on the transfer market in 2016 and 2017, respectively. In China, however, the winter is comparable to the summer transfer window of the major European leagues, which is why higher investments are much more common there then, or during the short-term boom of this period.
